Love enduresby Roger and Camille

My husband of 46 years has Parkinson's disease. He used to walk 4-plus miles to the hospital where he was a cardiologist. Now he exalts in less than one city block. But we do it! Every day! His parkinsonian moods can make him depressingly (for both of us) down. And his needs are so many I had no time for my own pleasures as I did in the past. But now I feel a deep content inside seeing him try so hard to walk down by the Hudson River and reward him by reading his chosen articles from the papers to him out loud while he munches on a sandwich. It seems idyllic. I am so grateful. I was a very busy science editor for years. I had a life of travel twice a year to Paris. Now we cannot travel and I feel a peace within. I thank God when I am feeling just too tired to go on. And then I relax and can go to sleep. I wake up happy. And I feel so privileged to be the one to watch over my husband. I keep strong by exercising down by the river while he contemplates his own walk holding onto the rail by the river. As bad as it is that he is in this condition, we are in love and excited about our life. I could not do it without the miracles that God has placed in our lives, and I am constantly in a state of grace. God saved his life after a fall he had 4 years ago, and I will never let him down.
